A contract by definition is an exchange of promises between two parties where both the parties agree to abide by the same. Contracts which demand of such promises (as in "Love Contract") are not an exception now a days. There are companies which require an employee to "not marry" for some specific number of years, for that is the requirement of the job. Employees are required to travel extensively and thus the companies want a 100% commitment from these employees. Speculating and quoting that these contracts are 'out and out' wrong would be too quick a decision. Also, there are employees who sign these contracts in view of a better career prospects and do adhere to the same.
Apart from these written contracts, there are other ways also by which managers in an organisation try to deal with a situation where they think that the culture of the organisation is getting affected in a bad way(if at all that is actually a case). I would like to quote an incident which took place in one of the top IT firms in Bangalore.
There was a team of around 30 members which was headed by a lady manager. There was an associate Mr X, who took special interest in female associates and spent most of his time trying to impress one or the other girl in the team(that too in the working hours). This behavior of his was very evident to all the associates around and alienated quite a many. Then one day the lady manager did something that goes as follows:
She called up a meeting with all the female associates of the team and warned them against this associate Mr X. She said that he has got a bad character and that all the girls should refrain from speaking to him. Also, she urged everyone to concentrate on their respective works and try their best not to interact with Mr X. In the course she also mentioned about some other female associates who had had bad experiences with Mr X and had thus changed their team to avoid this associate.
Later on, by giving the reasons of below average performance Mr X was asked to put down his papers and leave the organisation.
Thus, as we can see, in various organisations, managers go about different ways through which they try to put their point across. At times it may be through written contracts and at times it may be through various actions taken to ensure that the undesirable act does not affect the organisational culture.
